The Final Roundup - The Gathering of Mustangs & Legends

Over 150,000 people attended the Gathering of Mustangs and Legends at Rickenbacker Airport September 27-30. They were treated to what was probably the finest display of WWII fighter aircraft and other historic airplanes of our era.

The P-51 Mustang was one of the premier fighters of WWII and Korea. Many of the pilots who flew them were present at the event, including a number of the "Tuskegee Airmen", the black pilots who served in North Africa and again later in Korea. The shared their memories with those who attended, and will forever be remembered for their bravery and service to their country.

As examples of historic aircraft, "Glacier Girl", a P-38 which landed on a glacier in Greenland and later retrieved from under 268 feet of ice, and a Canadian Lancaster bomber, one of only two flying examples in the world, were not only on display but also flew in many of the formations each day of the show.

Most of the photos were taken by Ian Wallace and his son, Stuart, during the week of the show. Some were sent along as example of the displays that were there. We hope they present some of the visual treats that were available to those who attended.

We also want to thank the many members of the Ohio Motorpool and other MVPA members who volunteered their time and energy to bring their historic military vehicles to the event. Many took time from their jobs and busy schedules so that the attendees at the show could see, up close, those military vehicles that helped our country's military in both war and peace.

Now take a look at this "first cut" of photos from the event. I am still trying to go through the hundreds of photos and editing as I go along.

NOTE: YOU MAY FIND DUPLICATE PHOTOS HERE. WE ARE TRYING TO SORT THROUGH THEM AS WE HAVE TIME. I WOULD RATHER HAVE PHOTOS POSTED NOW THAN LATER J
