ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

TECHNICAL GUIDE TO THE FERRET

The vehicle is wired with a nominal 24 volt negative earth system with the starter motor and generator/alternator wired with an insulated return to the main earth point located at the Distribution Box. In addition the Generator negative connection is earthed at the Generator Panel. The majority of the equipment is waterproofed, tropicalised and, where neccessary, suppresed to prevent interference with wireless equipment.

There two battery containers situated in the rear left and right sides of the fighting compartment. The batteries are connected in series and are charged by a Generator or Alternator mounted on the engine. The output is controlled by the Generator Panel operating under a current voltage control system.

The wiring in the vehicle is assembled from synthetic-rubber insulated cable and, where appropriate, carried within armoured conduits. Connections to most units, or between sections of the wiring harness, are by plugs and sockets or snap-type connectors to enable the easy replacement of items. Electrical cables enter most units through tightly fitting rubber bushes secured by gland nuts.

To facilitate the quick removal and replacement of the engine a junction box is provided and mounted on a bracket at the front end of the induction manifold.
