TYRES

COURTESY ALEX MCPHERSON

There were basically 2 types of lazy S pattern tyres used on Ferrets. Both were made by Dunlop. The main difference is pictured. The difference being the bars of the tread differing where they meet the side wall of the tyre. The early pattern finish at differing lengths down the side wall and the later type are even all around the tyre circumference. This later type is still currently produced under the name of Simex tyres. Dunlop purchased Simex which is based in Malaysia and Dunlop sent the tyre molds to Malaysia as it is far cheaper to make these tyres in Malaysia. In fact they are still manufactured by Dunlop under the Simex name. The other difference is that the current Simex ST24 are made in a 10 ply rather than 6 or 8 ply.
