There are a number of variants of the Vessel, Boiling, Electrical available with the main variants being the No 2 Mk 1 & Mk 2.

Vessel, Boiling, Electrical, No 1
Vessel, Boiling, Electrical, No 2
Vessel, Boiling, Electrical, No 3

VESSEL, BOILING, ELECTRICAL, NO 1
The original AFV boiling vessel of (probably) World War Two vintage. It was phased out in the early fifties in favour of the safer No 2 version.

VESSEL, BOILING, ELECTRICAL, NO 2
The difference between a No 2 Mk 1 and a No 2 Mk 2 kettle is that the Mk 1 is made out of steel and the Mk 2 is stainless steel. Other than that they are exactly the same apart from the Identification plate on top which is red on the Mk1 and silver on the Mk2. The Mk 1 is usually dated in the fifties and the Mk 2 in early seventies sugesting they switched from steel to stainless steel sometime between those dates.

Not visible are the FV No's on the lids behind the knobs. They are; for the complete equipment: FV159910, and for the cable: FV 166461/1.

VESSEL, BOILING, ELECTRICAL, NO 3
An improved version that was not widely issued. The major change was the electrical lead and socket on the heating element which was made more water resistant.
